Opontia’s vision is to become the next generation e-commerce group in Eastern Europe, Middle East, & Africa. This will be achieved by acquiring, operating, and scaling outstanding e-commerce brands with superstar products.

Our story

Opontia was founded by ecommerce experts to enable online sellers to realize the full value of their brands. The journey all started when two co-founders who shared a similar vision met and decided to merge their skill sets to create the region’s first fully digital “house of brands”.

The company was established in beginning of 2021 and expanded quickly into new geographies. Today Opontia is present in four of the largest online retail economies in EEMEA with offices across Riyadh, Dubai, Istanbul and Warsaw.

We believe in putting sellers first in everything that we do to provide a fast and fair way for ecommerce entrepreneurs to sell their brands. Our transactions are handled with integrity and full transparency to ensure a best possible seller experience.

Our teams are also trained to oversee transactions with full ownership to minimise the amount of time sellers dedicate to the acquisition and integration process.

Finally, we empathise with the hardwork and sacrifices made by e-commerce entrepreneurs to develop their brands and insist on conserving all brand owner's legacies.


We are led by a team of e-commerce experts with extensive experience in brand building, scaling, product design, logistics, and SME financing.

Manfred was previously the Chief Market Place Officer for one of the largest E-commerce players in Southeast Asia, Lazada (Alibaba) where he drove the growth of over 500 brands and 50,000 sellers. Following this, he moved to the Middle East and became CCO of one of the largest e-commerce companies in the region.

Manfred holds a MA in Corporate Finance from Vienna University of Economics and Business.

Manfred Meyer

Co-Founder & Co-CEO

Philip previously spent two years at McKinsey, Dubai working on e-commerce strategy, private equity, and post-merger integration. Before this, he spent two years doing venture capital investing across Southern Africa, and five years in banking split between London, New York, and Singapore.

Philip holds an MPA from Harvard University, an MBA from The Wharton School, an MA from Columbia University, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Philip Johnston

Co-Founder & Co-CEO

Nabih was previously CFO of and most recently oversaw the finance function at Chalhoub Group's Beauty Division.

He is a CIMA member and has an MBA from Hult International Business School.

Nabih Sabbagh

VP of Finance

David is an e-commerce expert with a strong background in building and scaling operations in hypergrowth companies.

He started his career in Southeast Asia, leading logistics, operations and strategy functions for the e-commerce player Lazada (Alibaba). Later, he joined Africa's biggest ecommerce platform Jumia as the Fulfillment and Logistics Country Manager in Kenya before leading their Global Delivery team.

David Elsner

VP of Operations

Yaman is an M&A expert who is excited to incorporate top brands in the region into the Opontian ecosystem. Prior to Opontia, Yaman worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company in Turkey, focusing on e-commerce strategy, private equity, due diligence and post-merger integration. Before McKinsey, Yaman worked as an investment banker at Ünlü&Co.

Yaman holds an MBA from INSEAD, a Masters degree from Boğaziçi University, and BSc from METU.

Yaman Ungan

General Manager, Turkey & Poland

Karim spent the last five years at McKinsey & Company split between the Dubai, Lagos, Boston, and Toronto offices. He also led efforts in formulating the e-commerce growth strategies of notable retail conglomerates in the MENA region.

Karim holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from McGill University in Canada.

Karim Harake

Mizyal spent last 5 years revolutionising the e-commerce marketing landscape in South Asia. His expertise involves optimising marketing budgets and developing cross platform consistency in digital ads.

In addition to this Mizyal is also also a mentor at the Institute of Business Administration in Pakistan where he guides aspiring founders to grow their startup ideas.

Mizyal Wahid

Head of Performance Marketing

Orhan is an M&A transactions expert equipped with advanced data analytics skills. Orhan's role in Opontia is to regionally oversee end-to-end deal cycles and execute due diligence of potential acquisitions of successful e-commerce brands. Before Opontia, he was an M&A Transactions manager at PwC where he engaged in buy-side/sell-side advisory for corporate clients, leading private equity houses, and, investment banks on their potential M&A transactions for various sectors and industries. In addition, he was also a part of the data analytics team at PwC, where he utilized advanced technology to facilitate more effective ways of working and delivering data-fueled insights to his clients.

Mohamed Elmaki

Rawan is a licensed attorney-at-law and a and a member of the Beirut Bar Association. Prior to joining Opontia, Rawan worked for 3 years at the office of Ziyad Baroud & Associates in Beirut, Lebanon where she specialized in M&A and Corporate Law.

In addition to her LL.B. and Master’s from Université Saint Joseph de Beyrouth (USJ), Rawan also holds a certificate in Mediation from the Professional Mediation Centre and served as a Legal Counsel to several Associations and International Non-Profit Organizations.
