Opontia was founded by ecommerce experts to enable online sellers to realize the full value of their brands. The journey all started when two co-founders who shared a similar vision met and decided to merge their skill sets to create the region’s first fully digital “house of brands”.
The company was established in beginning of 2021 and expanded quickly into new geographies. Today Opontia is present in four of the largest online retail economies in EEMEA with offices across Riyadh, Dubai, Istanbul and Warsaw.
We believe in putting sellers first in everything that we do to provide a fast and fair way for ecommerce entrepreneurs to sell their brands. Our transactions are handled with integrity and full transparency to ensure a best possible seller experience.
Our teams are also trained to oversee transactions with full ownership to minimise the amount of time sellers dedicate to the acquisition and integration process.
Finally, we empathise with the hardwork and sacrifices made by e-commerce entrepreneurs to develop their brands and insist on conserving all brand owner's legacies.
MEET THE TEAM
Manfred was previously the Chief Market Place Officer for one of the largest E-commerce players in Southeast Asia, Lazada (Alibaba) where he drove the growth of over 500 brands and 50,000 sellers. Following this, he moved to the Middle East and became CCO of one of the largest e-commerce companies in the region, before founding Next Commerce, an e-commerce enabler in the UAE and KSA.
Manfred holds a MA in Corporate Finance from Vienna University of Economics and Business.
Co-Founder & Co-CEO
Philip previously spent two years at McKinsey, Dubai working on e-commerce strategy, private equity, and post-merger integration. Before this, he spent two years doing venture capital investing across Southern Africa, and five years in banking split between London, New York, and Singapore.
Philip holds an MPA from Harvard University, an MBA from The Wharton School, an MA from Columbia University, and is a CFA Charterholder.
Co-Founder & Co-CEO
Bala is a seasoned e-commerce leader who is excited to help homegrown e-commerce brands in EEMEA scale globally.
Prior to Opontia, Bala was leading Amazon's Fashion marketplace business in the UAE. Before Amazon, Bala was part of the leadership team at Uber Eats MENA where he oversaw customer acquisitions. His also worked Zomato and McKinsey & Company.
Bala holds a graduate degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an MBA in Finance from the IIT, Ghaziabadhim.
VP Acquisitions
Shruti is an experienced brand expert and creator who is excited to take brands in the region to the next level.
Shruti spent three years at Namshi, where she headed the private label portfolio generating $60M revenue annually. Prior to that, Shruti spent 8 years across buying & merchandising, product strategy and brand management roles at various retailers globally.
Shruti holds an MBA from INSEAD, a Masters in Fashion Design and Management from Bocconi, and a BBA from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
VP Brand Management
Moheet is an operations expert who previously headed the seller operations vertical for Noon in Saudi Arabia.
He comes with more than a decade of entrepreneurial and leadership experience in building a multi-million dollar e-commerce ventures such as his most successful one: Kashmir Box.
At Opontia, Moheet is building the multi-country operational structure managing Cross Border inventory movement, E-Commerce Fulfillment, and Customer Service.Moheet holds both a BCA and an MBA from the university of Kashmir.
Head of Brand Operations
Anurag is an analytics expert with extensive experience in building solutions to enhance data systems and improve business performance.
Earlier, he spent over 5 years at Careem delivering analytics and insights for the ride hailing domain. He was responsible for leading the strategic analytic projects within the Product and Operations teams. Prior to this Anurag worked in a market research company, consulting for the Gaming and Audio sector in the Middle East.
Head of Data
Karim is a growth strategy expert with extensive experience working with principal investor clients in the region, focused on retail, real-estate and telecommunication industries.
He spent the last five years at McKinsey & Company split between the Dubai, Lagos, Boston, and Toronto offices. He also led efforts in formulating the e-commerce growth strategies of notable retail conglomerates in the MENA region.
Karim holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from McGill University in Canada.
General Manager, KSA
Yaman is an M&A expert who is excited to incorporate top brands in the region to the Opontian ecosystem.
Prior to Opontia, Yaman worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company in Turkey, focusing on e-commerce strategy, private equity, due diligence and post-merger integration. Before McKinsey, Yaman worked as an investment banker at Ünlü&Co.
Yaman holds an MBA from INSEAD, a Masters degree from Boğaziçi University, and BSc from METU.
General Manager, Turkey
Prior to Opontia Kacper was the Head of International Sales at Allegro, largest e-commerce marketplace in Poland, where he led growth of international merchants on the platform from zero to many thousands. Before this, he spent eight years at McKinsey & Company advising e-commerce, retail and private equity clients in Europe, Australia and North America.
Kacper holds an MBA from INSEAD, and MA in Law from the University of Warsaw.
